New Methodology for Environmental Management
Focusing on improving environmental management across different regions of Brazil, the project Development of a Methodology for Assessing Environmental Governance at the Subnational Level in Brazil created a framework that contributes to a shared understanding of political, administrative, and communication dimensions—priority areas to be strengthened for better environmental governance throughout the country.
The project emerged from a literature and document review, as well as interactions with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, experts, and key informants from various sectors. In addition to the methodology, which is applicable in multiple contexts, the project helps expand the debate on environmental governance within the Brazilian federal system, emphasizing the lens of socio-environmental justice and the importance of collaborative arrangements—both vertical (between levels of government) and horizontal (between governments and sectors).
