Heat Exposure During Pregnancy and Low Birth Weight in Brazil
The project investigated the association between ambient temperature and low birth weight (LBW) in 5,790,713 birth records in Brazil (2001–2018). A logistic regression model adjusted for environmental and socioeconomic factors was applied. The study revealed that excessive heat during the second trimester of pregnancy increased the risk of LBW by 5.16% in the Northern Region, possibly due to climate change and deforestation in the Amazon. These findings reinforce the need for preventive measures to reduce the impacts of heat on maternal and child health.
