Racial and Economic Disparities in Heat Exposure in Brazil

Thematic axes
5 - Fostering Human and Social Development

Our study analyzed inequalities in heat exposure among different socioeconomic and racial groups in Brazil. Geospatial temperature data and information from the 2010 Census were used. The study revealed that Indigenous, Black, and low-income populations are the most exposed to temperatures above 28 °C, which may exacerbate health disparities. These findings underscore the need for climate policies targeting vulnerable populations.
