Sustainable Finance for Biodiversity in Brazil and Colombia (SF4B)

Thematic axes
6 - Unleashing Enablers and Accelerators including on Financing, Technology and Capacity Building

The Sustainable Finance for Biodiversity in Brazil and Colombia (SF4B) is a research and training project that aims to build the capacity of policymakers and financial market actors in the use and application of sustainable finance taxonomies for the protection and sustainable use of biodiversity and ecosystems.

Brazil holds the greatest biodiversity on the planet, encompassing two biodiversity hotspots, six terrestrial biomes, and three major marine ecosystems. Colombia, in turn, is home to nearly 10% of all global biodiversity. However, biodiversity loss in both countries underscores the urgent need to channel greater financial resources toward the protection and restoration of biodiversity and ecosystems.

In Brazil, the project includes research activities, capacity building, stakeholder consultations, the development of a prototype financial taxonomy, and knowledge exchange between partner countries. As part of the International Climate Initiative (IKI), the project is implemented by Fondo Acción in Colombia and FGVces in Brazil, with overall coordination and execution led by the Frankfurt School – UNEP Collaborating Centre for Climate and Sustainable Energy Finance.
