Boot on the Table
Carried out by FGVces in partnership with Citi and sponsored by the Citi Foundation between 2015 and 2019, the Bota na Mesa Project aimed to promote the inclusion of family farming in the food supply chain of major urban centers, taking into account fair trade, environmental conservation, and food and nutritional security.
In its first two cycles, the project worked directly with nine producer organizations of fruits and vegetables in São Paulo’s green belt, supporting improved management and marketing practices and creating market access opportunities.
Starting in 2018, the project adopted a broader approach to the food chain, recognizing that several challenges faced by family farming go beyond commercialization. Together with a group of specialists, the project identified five priority themes for action: Consumer Relations, Infrastructure & Technology, Youth in Agriculture, Agroecological Transition, and Climate Change.
In 2018 and 2019, Bota na Mesa coordinated Working Groups with experts in each of these areas, resulting in a set of Public and Corporate Guidelines for the Inclusion of Family Farming in the Food Supply Chain.
Since 2020, FGVces has continued to work on the agriculture and food systems agenda, supporting the implementation of these guidelines through new projects, studies, and publications that engage diverse stakeholders across the value chain.
