In collaboration with the National Confederation of Insurance Companies (CNseg), FGV will hold a roundtable discussion on Climate Risks as part of London Climate Action Week.
Climate risks are intensifying globally, giving rise to substantial losses across a wide range of societal sectors. Brazil, with its diverse biomes, climates, and soils, offers a unique “laboratory” of climatic data that can underpin global research on risk assessment and resilience strategies.
This panel will examine how scientific knowledge can inform public policy aimed at enabling societies to mitigate and adapt to climate-related risks. It will also highlight the role of strategic instruments - such as insurance and reinsurance - in supporting cities to anticipate, manage, and reduce the impacts of climate-related disasters.
By bringing together leading researchers, insurance and reinsurance companies, civil society organisations, and funding bodies, the discussion will consider how climate data, risk modelling, and evidence-based policymaking can contribute to resilient infrastructure, green finance, and more informed decision-making. The panel will emphasise how integrated approaches — combining science, policy, and financial tools — can enhance the capacity of cities and institutions to anticipate, manage, and recover from climate catastrophes, while opening new avenues for international collaboration and long-term resilience initiatives.
