FGV Earth to Launch with Three Days of Programming Focused on Environmental Governance and Innovation
Fundação Getulio Vargas will officially launch FGV Earth – Center for Innovation, Research and Dissemination (CEPID) in Global Environmental Change Governance from September 10 to 12 in São Paulo. The three-day program includes complementary events that reinforce Brazil’s position as an international reference in innovative solutions to global environmental challenges.
On September 10, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., the event “Leadership for Governance and Innovation in Climate Action” will take place in the Noble Hall of the São Paulo School of Business Administration (FGV EAESP), bringing together global leaders from academia, the private sector, and government. The meeting will explore pathways toward COP30, focusing on transforming sustainability into competitive advantage, driving policy change through governance, and accelerating climate innovation.
Panelists from Latin America, Africa, and Europe will share regional experiences and practices related to the sustainability agenda. Confirmed guests include Maria Alejandra Gonzalez-Perez (Universidad EAFIT), Ritesh Sharma (IFFCO Nanoventions Brazil), Caroline Passuello, Rui Mucaje (AfroChamber), and Dan Ioschpe (COP30). Also participating are Anderson Correia (IPT), Renato Pacheco Neto (Consul of Sweden), Samo Tosatti and Mauro Kiithi Arima Junior (São Paulo State Government), as well as Gabriel Poli de Figueiredo, an expert in smart cities and public policy.
The official launch of FGV Earth will take place on September 11, starting at 4 p.m., also in the Noble Hall of FGV EAESP. Funded by FAPESP through the CEPID program—the largest funding line for research centers—the new FGV center brings together researchers from management and economics to promote academic excellence connected to political debates on sustainability.
The second day’s program includes two panels: the first will address the importance of CEPIDs for FAPESP and FGV EAESP’s research strategy, culminating in the presentation of FGV Earth by the center’s coordinator, José Antônio Puppim de Oliveira. The second panel will feature the coordinators of the center’s six thematic research groups, highlighting its interdisciplinary approach.
Concluding the program, on September 12 at 8 a.m., the research project “Lessons from Extreme Climate Events: Mechanisms and Incentives for Evidence-Based Environmental Policymaking at the Subnational Level” will be presented. Funded by the British Academy, the study offers valuable insights for evidence-based environmental policymaking, especially in subnational contexts.
The presence of the COP30 organizing team throughout the three days underscores FGV Earth’s commitment to developing innovative solutions to global environmental challenges. Although the events are by invitation only, key outcomes will be shared through FGV’s official channels.
