The SPA is a first-of-its-kind, high-level regional initiative that convenes more than 300 leading scientists to synthesize and communicate scientific knowledge about the Amazon, integrated with Indigenous and Local Knowledge to accelerate solutions for sustainable and equitable development. In 2021, the SPA released its landmark Amazon Assessment Report, known as “The Encyclopedia for the Amazon.”
At COP30 in Belém, the SPA will launch the second Amazon Assessment Report (AR2025), focused on Amazon connectivity and presenting science-based insights and solutions to conserve and restore the region’s ecological and socio-cultural connectivity that is essential for the provision of ecosystem services of local, regional and global significance.
The event features the participation of FGV Direito SP researcher Marcelo Behar, who is the Special Envoy for Bioeconomy at COP30.
