This panel, organized by FGV, will explore pathways for a just transition in the Amazon, addressing the paradox of a region that is exceptionally rich in natural resources, yet continues to face significant socio-economic challenges, including limited access to quality education, healthcare, and basic services. The discussion will focus on how the sustainable use of biodiversity can generate positive and inclusive economic outcomes, through models that translate environmental assets into tangible benefits for local populations without compromising ecological integrity. Bringing together perspectives from Brazil and Europe, the session will examine how policy, investment, and governance frameworks can support equitable, science-based and locally grounded development pathways in the region.
